I was inspired by this Instagram post to write this article. Special thanks to menjadimanusia.id on Instagram and many other articles related to #KaburAjaDulu.

I am Kevin, one of the Indonesians who chose to “escape” from Indonesia for various reasons. I am a student currently studying in Japan and am scheduled to work at Rakuten Group, Tokyo, after I graduate. You can read more about it below.

#KaburAjaDulu has been a trending phenomenon lately in Indonesia. There are hashtags appearing on X (formerly Twitter) such as #KaburAjaDulu and #NKRIHargaMati. These hashtags represent two different groups.

The first one is a group that feels undervalued by the country because of very low salaries, continuously rising prices, and/or disappointment with the country’s government policy and quality of life. So, they chose to find a way to “escape” the country and study/work…
