My New Year Resolutions in 2025

Every year, many people tend to create a list of goals or resolutions to pursue for the new year. However, many fail to achieve their resolutions simply due to a lack of determination or a concrete plan to accomplish them.
As for me, I decided to have none.
Aren’t New Year Resolutions Great to Motivate Us?
Well, yes. But the problem is, some people, myself included, struggle to keep up with their targets. In the worst cases, those resolutions can end up causing stress when they aren’t achieved.
Take me as an example. Here were my resolutions for 2024:
- Publish at least two articles per month on Medium. I failed because I didn’t have much free time. I only published 16 articles this year (Target: 24 articles).
- Be fluent in Japanese. Not even close. I’m conversational, but I’m still bad at business Japanese — probably due to a lack of time to study.
- Journal daily. Failed, mostly due to lack of motivation.
- Etc.
These resolutions were pretty specific and time-bound, meaning I genuinely intended to achieve them all in 2024. But…
