It was a hard journey, but I did it. After around 2–3 months of job hunting in Japan, I finally managed to land a job at Rakuten Group in an engineering position! After graduating from my current university in 2026, I will work there at the Tokyo headquarters!

But how? Were there any specific steps I had to take beforehand?

Short answer: Yes — attending university career seminars, submitting my application, completing the tests, and passing the interview rounds.

Career Seminars at Waseda University

Initially, I didn’t have any kind of plan or strategy because I had just started as a Master’s student at Waseda University in April 2024. For me, the job-hunting process, which begins as early as two years before graduation, was very daunting. I was afraid of taking the wrong steps, especially since I didn’t know where or when to start.

But luckily, Waseda University, known for its high employment outcome rate, offers many career support programs for students. I decided to consult with the staff there, check their website, and attend some of the career seminars available to me.
